Two Maryland state troopers hit, injured by impaired driver

Two Maryland State troopers were injured Friday when their patrol car was hit by an impaired driver, police said.

Trooper First Class Manuel Moreno, 42, and Trooper John Cabrera, 34, were investigating a crash on Interstate 95 in the area of Sandy Springs Road in Prince George’s County just after midnight Friday, police said.

The two set flares to warn traffic, then returned to their patrol car, with emergency equipment on, to file a report, police said.

Arcenia D. Macklin, 48, of Laurel, Md., struck the troopers’ car from behind while driving her 2001 Pontiac Sunbird, police said. They said Macklin refused medical treatment at the scene and was later charged with driving under the influence and violating the move-over law.

Both troopers were taken to Prince George’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
