Two men were shot and wounded Tuesday evening in Northwest Washington, D.C. police said.

Officers were called to 11th and R streets just before 7 p.m. and found the two men conscious and breathing, said Officer Hugh Carew, a spokesman. Police had stopped two other people near the scene, but it was unclear if they were in custody.

No further information was immediately available.
