Upper Marlboro man arrested in double shooting

Police have arrested and charged an Upper Marlboro man who they say shot and killed his ex-girlfriend and shot and wounded another woman Sunday morning in the Capitol Heights area, authorities said.

Michael Jerome Stewart, 33, is charged with first-degree murder and other related counts in the slaying of 25-year-old Brittany Sade McKinley. She was fatally shot Sunday morning near her home in the 4600 block of Heath Street, police said.

Police said Stewart was McKinley’s ex-boyfriend, and he had gotten into a confrontation with her at Irving’s Night Club before the incident. After security personnel threw him out of the club — where McKinley worked — he went to her home and waited, police said. As she and a 23-year-old woman pulled up, Stewart opened their car door and opened fire, police said.

McKinley was killed in the incident, and the 23-year-old was shot and wounded, police said. She is expected to survive.

Stewart was arrested in the Landover area, police said.
