Va. deputy fired after Richmond jail assault accusation

RICHMOND, Va. — A Richmond sheriff’s deputy accused of assaulting an inmate at the city jail has been fired.

Sheriff C.T. Woody Jr. announced the dismissal of Deputy Jermaine Dove on Thursday.

Woody says in a news release that Dove had been suspended without pay following his arrest Dec. 5 on a misdemeanor assault charge. He was fired following an internal investigation.

Woody says the assault charge stems from an altercation at Richmond City Jail on Nov. 29.
