The identities of two people killed in a fire in Southeast Washington on Tuesday have been released.

Police said Glenn Morris Williams, 51, and Diane Toogood, 56, died when flames swept through a two-story apartment building in the 1700 block of R Street SE.

Their bodies were found on the ground floor of the building, which otherwise vacant and had been deemed “blighted” since 2011.

Fire officials said Williams and Toogood appeared to be squatters.
