Virginia inmate Christopher Moore convicted in assault on officer

ABINGDON, Va. — An inmate at a federal prison in Lee County faces up to eight more years behind bars for assaulting a correctional officer.

Christopher Moore also faces a fine of up to $250,000.

A federal jury found the 51-year-old Jonesville man guilty Wednesday evening.

The incident occurred Dec. 3, 2009, at the U.S. Penitentiary Lee County in Jonesville.

Federal prosecutors say Moore shoved, kicked and slapped the hands of a correctional officer who was working in the prison’s Education Department. The officer was treated for injuries to his right leg.
