A woman was fatally stabbed at an apartment building in the Camp Springs area Monday morning, and police have arrested a man who is believed to have attacked her, authorities said.
Investigators said the attack appeared to be “domestic-related,” and they are investigating whether the man and woman might have been boyfriend and girlfriend, said Cpl. Clinton Copeland, a Prince George’s County police spokesman. He said investigators were also trying to determine whether there was a history of domestic abuse.
The attack occurred about 8:30 a.m. at the Allentown Apartments in 5200 block of Morris Avenue. Copeland said police were called for a report of a stabbing and arrived to find the woman gravely wounded. She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Copeland said.
Copeland said investigators took into custody the man believed to be her attacker a short time later in the 6100 block of Harley Lane.
About noon, police had cordoned off a wide swath of grass behind the apartment building, laying evidence markers near a playground. Neighbors said they were rattled by the sudden influx of officers.
“That’s crazy,” said 37-year-old Lakeisha Kelley, looking down from her balcony at crime scene tape surrounding a playground. “Kids are out here playing everyday, and it's not okay for them not to be safe on the playground.”
Copeland said the stabbing seemed to have occurred inside an apartment.
