Teen killed in single-vehicle crash in Suitland; police searching for driver

A teenager was killed after the vehicle she was riding in overturned in the Suitland area of Prince George’s County early Saturday morning, and police are searching for the vehicle’s driver, who fled the crash scene.

The incident occurred about 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of Hil-Mar Drive and Suitland Road, said Cpl. Larry Johnson, a Prince George’s County police spokesman. Johnson said police arrived to find a 17-year-old seriously injured inside a flipped vehicle, and she was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Johnson said investigators have identified a man they believe was driving the vehicle, and he fled the scene after the crash. He said officers were searching for the man Saturday.

“We hope that he turns himself in,” Johnson said.

Johnson said investigators are still trying to piece together the circumstances of the crash, and they are investigating whether speed or alcohol played a part. He declined to identify any of those involved.
