Metro Transit Police released a photo caught on camera of the suspect, showing an African-American man boarding the bus. The man, according to Metro officials, appeared to pay his fare.

He approached a female passenger on the bus at the intersection of Stanton and Elvans roads SE. The suspect “revealed the handle of a gun in his waistband and demanded her purse,” according to Dan Stessel, a Metro spokesman.

The suspect then ran off the bus in an unknown direction. No one was injured in the incident.

The incident comes as Metro has seen a rise in incidents of electronic devices being stolen and bus drivers have reported more cases of being spit on or attacked by riders.

Anyone with information is asked to call Metro Transit Police at 202-962-2121.
