Woman run over by car in school parking lot

A Prince George’s County Board of Education work van backed over and killed a woman in the parking lot of Samuel Chase Elementary School in Temple Hills Monday, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 11:20 a.m. in the school parking lot in the 5700 block of Fisher Road, authorities said. Cpl. Henry Tippett, a Prince George’s County police spokesman, said the driver of the van apparently did not see the woman and backed over her.

Tippett said the woman who was killed was about 60 years old and was not a school employee. He did not immediately identify her.

Students do not have classes at the school today because of some type of faculty work day, Tippett said. He said accident reconstruction investigators were on the scene trying to determine exactly what happened and if any charges were warranted.
