A 20-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Alexandria Thursday night by a knife-wielding man who dragged her into bushes by the side of a road, police said.

The suspect approached the woman, displayed a knife and demanded money as she was walking from the intersection of Eisenhower Avenue and Van Dorn Street around 11:30 p.m., Alexandria Police said.

The victim told the suspect she didn’t have any cash, police said. He then pulled her over a guardrail and into the bushes, where the sexual assault occurred, police said. The victim was not seriously injured.

The suspect then fled on foot toward South Pickett Street, police said.

The victim described the man as Hispanic and in his late 20s or early 30s, police said. The man was approximately 5’7” tall and about 150 pounds. He was wearing a brown T-shirt, blue jeans, tennis shoes and black-framed glasses.

Detectives do not believe the incident is related to the prior assaults that occurred on Holmes Run Parkway.
