Woman shot, alleged gunman killed overnight in Annapolis

This post has been updated.

A man is dead, and a woman is in critical condition following an attempted murder-suicide in Annapolis early Monday.

According to police, 43-year-old Tracy Lynn West of Crowsville was shot around 1 a.m. by her estranged husband, 50-year-old Calvin Cofield of Bowie.

The shooting took place at West’s place of work in the 300 block of Harry S. Truman Parkway in Annapolis. The location of the shooting is the Washington Post’s distribution center in Annapolis; West is a newspaper carrier for the company.

Detectives said that Cofield then proceeded to shoot himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and West was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police have not identified a motive, but detectives believe the shooting was the result of an isolated domestic dispute.

The investigation is ongoing.
