A woman suffered stab wounds Wednesday night during an attack in the Southeast neighborhood of Capitol Hill, D.C. police said.

The stabbing happened near Kentucky Avenue and C Street about 7:45 p.m., said Officer Paul Metcalf, a spokesman. The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries that were believed to be non-life-threatening.

Police were investigating whether the assailant may have known the victim, officials said. Authorities described the attacker as a black male, about 5'10" tall who was seen wearing a black jacket and a red shirt.
