A woman was stabbed several times in the neck, back and stomach early Friday morning on a street in Columbia Heights in Northwest Washington, according to D.C. police.

Authorities said the victim was critically injured in the attack, which occurred about 2:50 a.m. in front of a gas station in the 3500 block of 14th St. NW.

Officer Araz Alali, a police spokesman, said detectives knew of no suspect or motive and have classified the incident as an aggravated assault. Alali said the victim refused to describe her attacker.

Several blocks of 14th Street in both directions were closed as late as 7:30 a.m., hours after the stabbing occurred. The victim was being treated at a hospital; authorities described her as conscious and breathing at the scene.
