A woman attempting to cross Route 28 in the early Sunday morning darkness was struck and killed, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

The woman, who police have not yet identified, was hit at about 3:30 a.m. in the area of Routes 28 and 267, authorities said. The vehicles involved remained at the scene, authorities said.
