Community hearings for Henderson nomination

D.C. Council Chairman Kwame R. Brown (D) says Acting Chancellor Kaya Henderson will get her confirmation hearing in early May, day and time tbd. But before then, her nomination process will hit the road, with a series of three “citywide community conversations” that Brown will convene to collect public comment.

“As a parent with two elementary school children attending DCPS, I’m committed to education reform,” Brown said in a statement. “This is an important appointment that will have a critical impact on the future of our children and our city for years to come. Therefore, it is imperative that we hear from as many parents, students, and residents as possible. The best way to accomplish that goal is to take the forum to the people.”

Here’s the schedule:

Thursday, March 31, 6 p.m. Matthews Memorial Baptist Church, 2616 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SE

Wednesday, April 6, 6 pm: Stuart Hobson Middle School, 401 E Street NE

Thursday, April 7, 6 pm: Lafayette Elementary School, 5701 Broad Branch Road NW

Brown’s office said if you want to testify, please call Priscilla McIver, administrative assistant to the Committee of the Whole, at (202) 724-8196, or e-mail to furnish the names, addresses, telephone numbers, and organizational affiliation, if any, by the close of business on Wednesday, March 30.
