Kaya Henderson confirmed as D.C. schools chancellor

The D.C. Council unanimously confirmed Kaya Henderson Tuesday as the chancellor of the city’s schools, an action that council members had telegraphed at a hearing last week.

Henderson was named interim chancellor after Michelle A. Rhee resigned the position in October. Mayor Vincent C. Gray (D) nominated her for the post in March. She is the second chancellor since the public schools were put under mayoral control in 2007.

Bill Turque, who covers Montgomery County government and politics, has spent more than thirty years as a reporter and editor for The Washington Post, Newsweek, the Dallas Times Herald and The Kansas City Star.
