It took a while, but we’re finally bulking up our inside game. Maryland Schools Insider and Virginia Schools Insider launched this week to help deepen our education coverage across the region.

Both are off to strong starts. In Maryland, Michael Alison Chandler captures the dramatic generational transition in the superintendent’s office with a look at Joshua Starr’s Twitter feed — a quantum leap considering that his predecessor, Jerry Weast, didn’t even keep his own e-mail account. Prince George’s County reporter Robert Samuels previews what looks to be another difficult budget year for Superintendent William R. Hite Jr. Over in Virginia, Emma Brown chronicles the visit of First Ladies Michelle Obama and Kim Yoon-ok of South Korea to Annandale High School. Kevin Sieff, our other Virginia education reporter, will also contribute.
