Not long after Bryce Harper signed with the Nationals, he revealed his favorite teams in a bunch of sports. It went like this: Cowboys, Yankees, Lakers, Duke. No, for real, it did.
“I’m a Washington Nationals fan, but I like the Yankees,” he clarified.
Since the awful gnawing fear of D.C. baseball fans includes something about homegrown superstars fleeing to big markets, plus since rooting for the Yankees is like watching downhill skiing and rooting for the mountain, this didn’t go over super well among Nats fans.
But that was a year ago, and since then Harper has actually become teammates with real live Nationals, so maybe you’d think he would no longer actively cheer for another Major League team. Wrong!
This happened on Twitter during Thursday night’s Game 5. Once again, the reaction from Nats fans was somewhat less than thrilled.
Harper later clarified again, writing “I love my Nationals, but if I’m going to root for a team in the post-season its going to be the Yanks!” He also deleted the above tweets, which were captured by Nationals Enquirer.
Anyhow, can’t wait for June 15, 16 and 17 of next season, when the Nats will face the Yankees. Hope ya boy CC isn’t pitching!
