If Rex Grossman accomplished nothing else by saying he thought the Redskins would win the NFC East, he at least got the national sports media talking about the Redskins.

Though I guess not always in a good way, necessarily.

“The reason nobody’s talking about the Redskins winning the NFC East: they haven’t done it since Bill Clinton was president,” Trey Wingo pointed out on ESPN. “The Arizona Cardinals were still in the NFC East, and Norv Turner was the Redskins’ head coach the last time they won the division, way back in 1999. I mean, I guess you gots to have confidence, right?” (Video below.)

“Ummmmm,” Cris Carter replied. “Eli Manning, Michael Vick, Tony Romo, that’s why they’re not talking about you....Why don’t the coaches whose teams he’s been on believe in him?”

“If Rex had any presence, I might be able to suspend my reality with his NFC East Champs comment, but alas, he hath no pizazz!” John Riggins wrote on Twitter.

“Of course, there’s a reason why nobody’s talking about you right now,” Jim Rome said on Rome is Burning. “They won’t be any time soon, either. Why would they? You’re going to end up right where you always are, looking up at the Cowboys and the Eagles and the Giants.”

“He didn’t point to the left field wall and say WE WILL WIN,” Trevor Matich said on Comcast SportsNet. “He qualified it. He spun it down. He said I feel like, not WE WILL WIN IT....Lie to me. It works for me. I’ll buy into it.”
