Honestly, I’m a little surprised it took Gio Gonzalez this long to reference the clown question craze. Of all the Nats, he seems to be the clowniest.

After Saturday’s game, Gio was asked what he thought of Bryce Harper joining him at the All-Star Game.

“It would be an honor,” he replied. “You know, that guy is unbelievable and I think that, he’s 19 years old. I mean, that says it all for itself. It’s almost to where I’m gonna quote his line. That’s a clown question, bro. If you have a kid like that at 19 at the All-Star [Game], it’s well deserved, an honor to have him right next to you.”

MASN has video of the full scrum where Gonzalez answered a few more questions in pure Gio fashion.

On pitching in the heat:

“I’m from South Florida. Kristina [Akra] knows,” he explained. “We’re all from South Florida, we know that heat. I was just trying to adapt to it and keep going. I’ve lost a ton of weight from it, but at the same time I’ve got my liquids in me. Just gotta keep fighting right through it.”

On whether he needed an IV to stay hydrated:

“I didn’t get an IV, absolutely not. I think it would be insulting to our Latin heritage. If I told them that, they’d be pretty mad. So, definitely not.”

On his trip to the All-Star Game:

“I’m just looking forward to BBQ in Kansas City.”
