The longest running player-vs-mascots soap opera in professional sports continued on Sunday afternoon, when Jayson Werth broke the finish-line tape for the presidents race before the presidents had begun racing.

In this (updated and amazing video), you can clearly see the Major League Baseball player coming across a finish line meant for large-headed presidential mascots.

“To me, the Presidents Race and Teddy Roosevelt are very symbolic of where this organization goes,” Werth told before the season. “It needs to be addressed. It needs to be answered.”

“What’s the poor guy got to do to get a win?” Werth told Kilgore and friends last week. “A great American president. Just a great American, period.”

And at least Werth puts his finishing kick where his mouth is.
