Maryland football wants you to refer a friend

Maryland football is far from the first team with a program like this. If you recruit a friend or family member to buy full or partial season tickets, the Kane County Cougars will apply a 15 percent credit to your 2012 renewal. McNeese football instituted a referral program for the 2011 season, in which each season-ticket referral you claim will earn you one entry into a raffle to win two roundtrip airline tickets. The Houston Dynamo have an extensive referral system, in which the new buyers get 5 percent off a full season plan, while the referrers get either a $50 gift card or a signed soccer ball for every full plan their friends or family members purchase. South Dakota State offers a $10 credit for every new football or basketball season-ticket package you help solicit, while Marquette basketball gives out $100 credits for bringing in a new account. A few years back, the Nets launched a referral program in which each new sale resulted in a 3 percent “cash commission,” with the team boasting it had thereby “hired” thousands of new sales reps.
