Nationals renovating field at Nats Park

A team spokeswoman, who provided this photo, explained that the club is in the process of “a complete renovation of the field,” which began late last month and is expected to be finished by Thanksgiving. The park’s original “Kentucky Blue Grass turf” was removed for the first time since the stadium opened; after four years of use, “the grass became compacted and the decision was made to replace it with a fresh new surface of the same type of Kentucky Blue, which will be laid on top of brand new sand,” she wrote.

The warning track dirt will also be replaced and will be a slightly darker shade in 2012.

This concludes your early-November Nationals Park playing surface update.
