Redskins launching women’s fan club

My first inclination in the past has been to poke fun at pro sports teams launching women’s fan groups. See, for example, my items on Club Scarlet for the Caps, and Purple: Just for Women for the Ravens.

And yet some women, of which I am not, apparently enjoy these things. So far be it for me to judge. If they start a fan group for bald 30-something bloggers who wear skull wristbands and Vans and like craft beers and veggie dogs, and I don’t join, then we might have an issue.

Anyhow, the point is, the Redskins are launching a women’s fan group this week. The release:

Mrs. Tanya Snyder and the Washington Redskins will hold a press conference to launch WOW, the Women of Washington Redskins, the team’s official Women’s Club, on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 12:30 p.m. ET at FedExField in Landover, Md. The press conference will take place after the 2011 Kickoff Luncheon for the Players Wives & Girlfriends.

WOW, the Women of Washington Redskins, is dedicated specifically to the Redskins’ female fans. The club will give members access to behind the scenes Redskins content, year-round events, special retail offers and more. Membership is free and fans will soon be available to sign up online.

I’m taking 1:5000 odds that pink Chris Cooley jerseys will be involved somehow.
