Wizards online store suggests Bullets gear is more popular than Wizards gear

If you want a different method to display this sense, you could visit the Wizards online team store. Seeing as how the franchise is called the Wizards, and has oodles of new gear reflecting the new logos and color scheme, you might expect the most popular items to, you know, reference the Wizards.

But of the 24 “most popular” men’s items listed by the store, here’s the breakdown: 12 say “Bullets,” 5 say “Wizards,” 4 say just “Washington” and 4 say just “D.C.”

That means less than a quarter of the team’s most popular men’s apparel items even mention the team’s horrible nickname. Which sort of suggests that the nickname is indeed horrible.

The breakdown is the same when you look at individual categories. Like, 5 of the 8 most popular t-shirts feature the “Bullets” name while only one mentions the “Wizards,” as shown above.

So the choice is clear. Of course, Ted Leonsis’s most recent statement on the issue, in October, went like this: “There’s no change that’s being contemplated.”
