The Washington Teachers’ Union, which represents 4,000 local educators, threw its support behind former council member Vincent B. Orange (D) on Thursday in the special election for an at-large seat on the D.C. Council.

“I am honored and proud to receive the endorsement of the Washington Teachers’ Union,” said Orange, who is vying against eight other candidates in the citywide election April 26. “Education is among my highest priorities, and if elected, I will work with the Washington Teachers’ Union to ensure that the interests of teachers and students in the District of Columbia are effectively represented and addressed on the council.”
