TRAFFIC ALERT: All lanes have reopened on I-95 North at Prince William Parkway. Massive delays remain from this morning’s earlier road closures. H.O.V. restrictions lifted on I-95, I-395.
8:50 A.M. Update:
It’s been a rough commute throughout the Washington region, with drivers delayed by accidents, lane closures and rain peppering the area.
I-95 North has fully reopened before Occoquan, but the earlier lane closures severely slowed traffic leading up to that point. As usual, even after lanes have reopened it takes a while for congestion to clear up after major closures and delays. These delays continue to slow northbound traffic.
The H.O.V. restrictions have been lifted on I-95 and I-395.
The accident on I-395 South before Edsall Road is still blocking the left lane and left shoulder. Expect southbound delays.
A vehicle fire on the inner loop of the Beltway east of Georgia Avenue could cause some delays.
Watch out for accidents on 13th and S streets NW and Wisconsin Avenue and R Street NW.
The accidents at 25th Street and Virginia Avenue NW, North Capitol Street and Michigan Avenue NE and 13th Street and Good Hope Road SE have all been cleared.
8:30 A.M. Update:
The accident on I-395 South before Edsall Road is blocking the left lane and left shoulder. The center lane has reopened. There are still heavy delays approaching this spot.
The accident on North Kings Highway/VA 241 at Richmond Highway/U.S. 1 in Huntington has been cleared and the through lanes reopened.
Traffic signals are reportedly flashing at 7th and Q streets NW.
An accident at 17th Street and Rhode Island Avenue NW could cause problems there. The same is true for an accident at Alabama Avenue and Good Hope Road SE.
The accident on I-270 at Wootton Parkway has been cleared.
8:15 A.M. Update:
It has been a miserable commute for many in the Washington region. Lane closures on I-95 North (before Occoquan) and I-395 (southbound before Edsall Road, northbound at Duke and King streets) have snarled the roads and slowed commuters in Virginia.
An accident on I-270 at Wootton Parkway is now blocking one lane in each direction as well as one of the shoulders in each direction.
There are also several accidents in Washington right now, so expect delays in these areas:
— In the 5200 block of Wisconsin avenue NW
— 25th Street and Virginia Avenue NW
— 14th and Belmont streets NW
— There was an accident in the northbound Third Street Tunnel, but that was cleared and all lanes reopened a short time ago.
— 13th Street and Good Hope Road SE
— 12th Street and Rhode Island Avenue NE
8:05 A.M. Update:
All lanes have reopened on I-95 North at the Prince William Parkway, but drivers should expect the massive delays to linger through the morning rush.
The lanes reopened shortly before 8 a.m. after a “temporary patch” was placed on the roadway, said Joan Morris, spokeswoman for the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The H.O.V. restrictions will remain lifted through the end of the morning rush hour. Even with all lanes open and moving there is still a huge backlog of traffic created by the earlier lane closures.
“You’re going to have the remnants of this all throughout the rush hour,”Morris said.
They don’t know at this time if they will need to close I-95 lanes again later today to do any additional work.
8 A.M. Update:

7:35 A.M. Update:

7:10 A.M. Update:
The vehicle fire on I-395 North at King Street continues to block the left lane, left shoulder and two reversible lanes.
The accident on I-395 North at Duke Street has been cleared and all lanes reopened there.
An accident on Nebraska and Massachusetts avenues NW could cause delays there.

The accident on I-395 North at Duke Street is now blocking the right lane and right shoulder. The center lane has reopened.
6:30 A.M. Update:
Drivers who usually take I-95 North through Prince William County should expect a particularly rough commute this morning. The Virginia Department of Transportation was doing concrete repair to I-95 North and found that the repair failed, said spokeswoman Joan Morris.
As a result, only the left lane gets by on I-95 North at the Prince William Parkway. They have lifted the H.O.V. lane restrictions on I-95 and I-395 to try and ease the expected congestion.
“It’s going to ruin the morning rush hour, unfortunately,” Morris said.
Drivers should expect this to last for a while because it will take a few hours before they can make an emergency fix, she said.
While lifting the H.O.V. lanes will help drivers a bit, Morris recommends that people delay their travel if possible.
6:15 A.M. Update:
Emergency roadwork on I-95 North between Dale City and Occoquan is blocking the right two lanes on I-95 North.
HOV restrictions have been lifted for I-95 and I-395.
