Arlington seeks public comment on Crystal City Potomac Yard corridor bus transit plan

Alexandria and Arlington officials are seeking public comment on plans for a bus transitway through the Crystal City Potomac Yard corridor.

The corridor is planned to grow to 12.7 million square feet of development in Alexandria and 59.4 million square feet in Arlington in the coming years. To handle that capacity, the two jurisdictions have been working on bus rapid transit systems for Route 1; officials would like to convert the bus line into a streetcar as the years progress.

The plans include the bus rapid transit lanes, location of station stops and passenger amenities, among other ideas. A meeting for public comment on the design will be held 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Aurora Hills Community Center, 735 18th Street South.

Arlington engineers and their consultants will be on hand to discuss the project.
