Beltway closings tonight in Virginia

Several closings are set to occur tonight on the western side of the Beltway in Virginia, and they’re likely to have a significant impact on overnight traffic.

HOT lanes project

Three lanes of the outer loop (I-495 south) from Leesburg Pike (Route 7) to the W&OD Trail overpass are scheduled to close between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. while crews shift traffic to the new outer lanes.

At Exit 47 for Leesburg Pike, there will be intermittent closings of the entire outer loop for up to half an hour after midnight because of bridge demolition work. Also, the left lane on both sides of Leesburg Pike at the Beltway will close for the bridge demolition.

Three left lanes of the inner loop (I-495 north) at Exit 49 for I-66 will close while workers erect steel beams.

A right lane on northbound Gallows Road (Route 650) at the Beltway will close for utility work.

Dulles Metrorail project

The three left lanes of the outer loop at Route 123 in Tysons Corner will be closed overnight while crews work on the rail bridges over the Beltway.

Traffic will be allowed to pass through the interchange, but drivers should expect delays. All ramps to and from Route 123 will remain open.

The ramp from the eastbound Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) to the inner loop (I-495 north) will close for steel beam erection. Traffic will be directed to take the outer loop (I-495 south) to Exit 46B, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north and follow signs to the eastbound Dulles Connector Road.
