3:15 p.m. Update: All lanes of the inner loop have reopened. However, congestion extends across the American Legion Bridge into Virginia. Expect delays if you’re traveling through the area.

Original post: A major accident involving a tractor-trailer and multiple cars has left nine people injured and is blocking lanes on the inner loop of the Beltway at Georgia Avenue, police and fire officials said.

Five people with non-life threatening injuries and four people classified as “life support patients,” were transported to the hospital, said Asst. Chief Scott Graham, a spokesman for Montgomery County Fire/EMS. The group included one child.

Only one lane of the inner loop was getting by as of 1 p.m. and traffic was backed up from Georgia Avenue to Old Georgetown Road, according to Maryland State Police. Emergency crews are on the scene.
