HAGERSTOWN — The Maryland State Highway Administration is adding an odd-looking weapon to its winter arsenal.
It’s called a “tow plow” and it enables one truck to plow two lanes. The agency said Wednesday it has added two of the devices to its fleet.
The tow plow is attached to the right rear of a plow truck. It juts out like a wing to plow the adjacent lane while the truck plows the lane directly in front of it.The tow plow can also apply salt to the road surface.
SHA officials say the tow plow reduces fuel costs and exhaust emissions.
