Power issues continue on Orange Line

11:25 a.m. Update: The power issues that slowed travelers on Wednesday and during the Thursday morning commute continue. Pepco said in a statement that repair efforts to restore normal electric service to a substation near Deanwood are still underway.

Maintenance crews are replacing underground cables, and the work should be completed Thursday afternoon, Pepco said.

Original post: The power issues that vexed Orange Line riders on Wednesday are still ongoing and will continue to slow Orange Line riders this morning.

The area impacted by the power outages is smaller than yesterday morning, when trains were delayed on both the Orange and Blue lines. The Orange Line is only running at reduced speeds between the Minnesota Avenue and Cheverly stations, said Metro spokesman Dan Stessel.

However, no eight car trains will run until full power is restored. Orange Line riders should expect crowded conditions on trains this morning.

Pepco estimates that power will be restored later this morning, according to Metro.
