Public meeting on D.C. streetcar line

Curious about the plans for the H Street/Benning Road streetcar line? D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Gray (D) and the District Department of Transportation’s streetcar team will be providing an update at a public meeting on Tuesday night.

Officials will seek public input on potential routes that could be used to create a connection to Union Station. They will discuss planned pole and overhead wire installations and detail plans for the operations base and maintenance facility (planned for 26th Street and Benning Road NE).

The meeting is scheduled to run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Atlas Performing Arts Center (1333 H St. NE). If you want to attend, the closest Metrorail stop is on the Red Line at Union Station. The center is also accessible via Metrobus routes X2, X8 and X9. (But plan ahead if you plan to use that last route, because X9 service ends at 6:30 p.m.)

If you want additional information, contact the streetcar team at 1-855-413-2954 or e-mail The information presented at the meeting will also be posted to
