Repairs underway on Anacostia Freeway

Drivers are encountering traffic delays while bridges are under repair along the Anacostia Freeway (Interstate 295).

The District Department of Transportation is doing work on five freeway bridges: over the Anacostia Park entrance, over Howard Road, over Suitland Parkway, over Firth Sterling Avenue and over South Capitol Street.

The repairs, to continue through September, require single lane closings along the freeway. The department says it will keep two lanes open in each direction.

Here’s the work schedule on the bridges:

Firth Sterling Avenue: through June 23.

Anacostia Park entrance: June 24 - July 5.

Howard Road: July 6 - 29.

Suitland Parkway:July 30 - Aug. 25.

South Capitol Street: Aug. 26 - Sept. 30.
