Today’s chat: Getaways and long commutes

The roads and rails were a bit empty today after the holiday, but Dr. Gridlock was nevertheless online from noon to 1 p.m. Monday taking your questions. He tackles the issues that come with living in outlying areas like Ashburn and commuting downtown; how officials should deal with delivery trucks downtown; violence on Metro; and the ever-present construction in NoVa. And with summer weather upon us, chatters consider escape routes to the beach.

And as for New York Avenue: The long-term disruptive construction that we’ve warned about for months is upon us, but this morning wasn’t too bad. Were readers scared away by our articles? Are they still on vacation? Have they taken advantage of the $50 monthly for alternative transporation? According to one participant in the online chat, the answer is: Just wait until the evening commutes, especially around what’s been called “Dave Thomas Circle.”

Join Dr. Gridlock every Monday at noon, and check out his previous chats.
