Icy conditions cause accidents, delays in Washington area

All lanes of the Memorial Bridge have reopened.

Original post, 7:02 a.m.:

Slippery road conditions due to freezing precipitation overnight are causing accidents and delays across the Washington area Thursday morning.

The outbound lanes of the Arlington Memorial Bridge, from the District to Northern Virginia, are closed, following an accident that officials said may have been caused by slick road conditions. Inbound lanes are open, but traffic is moving slowly.

The southbound lanes of Route 29 are closed after the Capital Beltway near Granville Road in Silver Spring due to an accident. Drivers should expect significant delays heading into the District.

An earlier accident on the outer loop of the Beltway, before Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase, is also causing delays. An accident has also been reported on the inner loop of the Beltway at Braddock Road in Virginia.
