Motorists beware: Sinkhole continues to close lane of 14th Street NW

“Gotta love all this fresh air.”

It’s the Thursday morning wake-up call of @14thStSkinkhole – the playful Twitter handle of a sinkhole that continued to close a lane on 14th Street NW from Constitution to Pennsylvania avenues.

Motorists beware: D.C. police said the northbound center lane remained closed Thursday while crews work to repair the 2-foot-wide and 4-foot-deep sinkhole.

The sinkhole made its appearance Tuesday. It was caused by an opening in the sewer, and crews are working to repair the damaged pipe, said a D.C. Water and Sewer Authority official.

Transportation officials said drivers may encounter traffic delays during the repair.
