D.C. officials celebrated the opening of a new span of the 11th Street Bridge on Saturday.

The Saturday afternoon celebration marks some of the transportation improvements that have occurred in the Anacostia River area.

Several projects will affect travel along Interstates 395, 695 and 295.

Workers will place girders for the 11th Street Bridge project.

A sultry and soupy weekend will see many traffic generating festivals. Metro will work on all lines. D.C. is opening new ramps on the 11th Street Bridge.

Travelers also should watch for I-95 delays in Northern Virginia.

After Friday night storms, the weekend looks good for outdoor activities. But watch out for track work on all Metrorail lines.

The District's reconstruction of the 11th Street Bridge remains a work in progress. In the morning, drivers jockey for position on the inbound freeway span, and that slows traffic from several directions.
