The Maryland Transportation Authority will increase the speed limit on the Intercounty Connector to 60 miles per hour from the current 55 mph limit. This new speed limit will become effective by March 31.

A Montgomery County Council member has asked transportation officials to halve tolls on the Intercounty Connector, saying lower tolls would attract more motorists to the highway.

Traffic remains light, but is increasing about 3 percent a month, the state said.
