NFL owners voted today to award the 2015 Super Bowl to Arizona, marking the third time the Phoenix area has hosted the championship game.

Tampa was also in the running to host Super Bowl XLIX; it has hosted four Super Bowls. Arizona hosted the game in 1996 (in Tempe) and 2008.

The game in Glendale will follow a cold-weather, outdoor Super Bowl in 2014 in MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. The 2012 site is Indianapolis; in 2013, the game will return to New Orleans.

And the site of the 50th Super Bowl? There’s plenty of sentiment for placing it in Los Angeles, despite the fact it does not have an NFL team. L.A. was the site of the first Super Bowl.
