Milwaukee Brewers' Ryan Braun trips as he rounds third trying for an inside-the-park home run. (Morry Gash/AP)

I credit Braun with winning me multiple league titles, putting him the pantheon of fantasy heroes alongside the likes of the 2005 version of Jorge Sosa and Preston Wilson circa 2003.

Currently on pace for the best season of his five-year major league career, Braun’s 2011 numbers speak for themselves: .333 average, .995 OPS, 25 home runs, 89 RBI, 92 runs scored.

But the Hebrew Hammer’s biggest improvement this season has come on the basepaths, where he’s already shattered his career high of 20 stolen bases. Through 137 games, Braun has swiped 31 bags.

All of this makes what happened Wednesday night in Milwaukee all the more hilarious.

Braun crushed a ball to deep center which caromed off the way and away from a pair of St. Louis Cardinals outfielders. It’s the perfect formula for an inside-the-park home run and you can see in Braun’s face as he rounds second base that he knows he’s got a chance.

Then disaster. As he barrels around third, he loses his balance and eats it. He desperately tries to get back up and tumbles again, gets caught in a pickle and is eventually tagged out at third base, panting.

Braun was able to laugh it off along with those in attendance at Miller Park — including NBA legend Reggie Miller — who gave their All-Star a standing ovation.
