Clinton Portis, the former Washington Redskins’ running back who has visited several teams but remains unsigned after his release last winter, is taking a physical, the NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reports. Among the teams Portis has visited are the New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks and, last week, the Tennessee Titans.

Larry Johnson, who was with the Redskins briefly last year, also was visiting Cincy, La Canfora reported. Johnson was released by the Dolphins last week after a brief stint. In fact, the Dolphins passed over Portis, preferring to sign Johnson in preseason.

Benson is in New York today, appealing his three-game suspension because of an arrest on an assault charge.

After spending most of her career in traditional print sports journalism, Cindy began blogging and tweeting, first as NFL/Redskins editor, and, since August 2010, at The Early Lead. She also is the social media editor for Sports.
