Dan Hampton is turning down an invitation to mark the 25th anniversary of the Chicago Bears’ Super Bowl championship at the White House because he has no interest in revisiting the past and he’s “no fan” of President Barack Obama.

“It's my own personal choice,” Hampton, a Hall of Fame defensive lineman, said in an interview on “The Mully and Hanley Show” on Chicago radio. “I don't choose to go.”

In addition to his objection to the exclusion of wives and families, Hampton said, “Secondly, I'm not a fan of the guy in the White House [who happens to be a Bears fan], and third, it was 25 years ago. Let it go.”

The Bears’s White House visit in early 1986 was canceled because of the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger. They’ll be honored in Washington on Oct. 7.

“It basically just rolled off our backs, and now, 25 years later to say, ‘Let’s put the band back together.’ No, I'm not in.”
