In his first big dance number, Donald Driver was more of an NFL player than a hoofer: his moves were precise and timed for maximum impact.

Which isn’t exactly the goal in dancing.

Consequently, despite being wigglier than a cheerleader, Driver and his partner Peta Murgatroyd got only 21 out of 30 points on the season premiere of “Dancing with the Stars.”

It’s true that Driver’s moves were a bit strong, as one judge said, like “a rooster chasing a hen” — or a Jim Harbaugh postgame handshake — but at least there was no Lambeau Leap.

Tennis great Martina Navratilova and her partner Tony Dovolani struggled with the foxtrot, finishing in a tie for the low score of 20 points despite having Chris Evert cheering her on in the audience. The leading scorers were actor Jaleel White (26) and opera star Katherine Jenkins (26). Gavin DeGraw and Melissa Gilbert tied Navratilova at the bottom of the standings.

“I am extremely shy and can get embarrassed easily,” Navratilova said. “And dancing in front of millions was a huge challenge for me.”
