Giants lose another defensive player: Marvin Austin tears pectoral muscle

Add defensive tackle Marvin Austin to the New York Giants’ list of players lost for the season.

Austin, a rookie who was a second-round draft pick out of North Carolina, has a torn left pectoral muscle, Coach Tom Coughlin said, and is expected to have surgery. Coughlin said he believes the injury is season-ending. Austin played for Coolidge and Ballou high schools in Washington, D.C.

Earlier today, the Giants announced that cornerbacks Terrell Thomas and Brian Witherspoon are out for the season after suffering knee injuries in Monday night’s game against the Chicago Bears.
