Indianapolis Colts’ ticket sales are lagging; team says it has “pretty much” decided whether it will draft Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III

Andrew Luck — or whichever quarterback the team takes with the first pick in the NFL Draft next week — may change the Indianapolis Colts’ fortunes immediately on the football field, but so far there has been no effect on ticket sales.

For the first time in 10 years, season tickets for Colts games are available with Pete Ward, the team’s chief operating officer, telling the Indianapolis Star that about 4,000 will be available.

“It’s not unexpected considering the things have transpired, going 2-14 and the departure of Peyton [Manning], Ward said. “In all honesty, we thought the economy would have affected us more than it has to this point, and then there’s the fact we’re one of the NFL’s smaller markets.”

The Colts, who released Manning on March 7, took him with the No. 1 pick in the 1998 draft and, during his best years, had a season-ticket waiting list of about 10,000. Manning did not play at all in 2011 and the Colts have a 79-game sellout streak.

General Manager Ryan Grigson said at a press conference today that the Colts have decided whether they’ll take Luck or Robert Griffin III with the No. 1 pick on April 26, but isn’t saying which player it will be.

“We’ve exhausted the process, pretty much made up our mind,” Grigson said. “We’re going to go from there.’’

Asked to elaborate on the decision, he replied, “April 26.”
