There could be an encore.

The team, according to ESPN’s Chris Broussard, has informed other teams that it may not trade Howard, after an offseason filled with rumors or deals, near-deals, called-off deals and denied deals.

According to two executives, the Magic will trade Howard, whose season ended prematurely with back surgery, only for the right player and could keep him and hope for a trade before the February deadlne. At minimum, Howard, ESPN reports, may not be traded for weeks. And there’s no reason for the Magic to hurry because Howard is under contract for next season.

At various times, the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers have been mentioned as possible destinations, to no avail. Howard has said he wants to be traded, preferably to the Nets.
