The San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders are expected to end their annual preseason game after two fans were shot and another beaten during fan violence at Candlestick Park.

Both the NFL and local police support the move, Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News reported, citing what he said was a high-ranking NFL source.

Although Kawakami reports that the two teams haven’t told each other that they no longer want to play the game, the NFL source said that there is “no way the game will be played next year, the year after and maybe longer than that,” Kawakami wrote.

Of course, the teams will play every four years in the regular season.
