Give Rex Grossman credit.

This is the face of optimism. (JOEL RICHARDSON/FOR TWP)

So Grossman did what any middling quarterback on a struggling team would do: he made a bombastic statement the forced the mainstream sports media to turn their attention to Ashburn once again.

By now you’ve surely heard the soundbite and SportsCenter anchors dropping Rex-inspired predictions left and right. In an interview with Comcast SportsNet on Tuesday, Grossman predicted the Washington Redskins would win the NFC East:

“Nobody's talking about us. That's right where we want to be. You look at us from top to bottom out here, there's a bunch of great players. And we don't need people saying we're the best right now, but when it's all said and done, I really feel like this team's gonna win the East.”

As a fan, you want your team’s players to be optimistic heading into each and every season. But the mood surrounding the Redskins fan community this offseason has been anything but optimistic, begging the question: Is this the most pessimistic Redskins fans have ever been heading into an NFL season?

What’s your take? Are you counting down the days to the 2012 NFL Draft where you expect the Redskins to have the No. 1 overall pick? Or do you think the 2011 Redskins will prove their doubters wrong?
